Hispanic and Haitian Creole Interpreters

Interpreters – Hispanic and Haitian Creole (All locations)

The interpreter provides medical translation services to non-English speakers. They help patients communicate with medical staff, doctors, and nurses. They ensure the complete understanding of medical information between, doctors, nurses, medical staff, Hispanic, Haitian, and migrant patients. They translate a wide range of medical information that includes medical conditions, treatment options, follow-up appointment details, etc. The Interpreter works as part of the clinical team and is responsible for accurate interpretation services for patients and staff. This position reports to the clinical manager of their site. This position is a Monday through Friday position working 40 hours per week. Full benefit package included.

Essential job functions of this position include but not limited to:

  • Accurately interprets for non-English speaking Hispanic and Haitian patients and their family members in all aspects of their visit, with providers, nursing staff, and support staff.
  • Accurately translates any written communications from English into Spanish or Creole and assists patients in properly completing necessary paperwork.
  • Works closely with providers to contact patients on their behalf, due to language barrier, to ensure understanding of provider’s orders, prescriptions, appointments, lab work, referrals, etc.

 Qualifications

Education

            High school diploma or GED

Experience

  • 1 to 2 years experience of interpreting in the medical field preferred
  • Competency tested in medical translation

The nurse will provide relevant nursing and support services in a OB/GYN office.  They will participate in care team to develop and implement plan of care following Patient Centered Medical Home model. Will provide care for patients with acute, chronic, and/or terminal illnesses.  Within the scope of Maryland Nurse Practice Act, the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse may be assigned specific responsibilities for certain direct patient services. Active participation with interdisciplinary teams, committees, program evaluations, research, and education. This position will report directly to the Clinical Manager. This position is a weekday  position working 40 hours per week. Full benefit package included.

Hours are Monday through Friday: 8:30am to 5:00pm

Essential Job Functions of this position include but not limited to:

  • Provide direct care to patients as assigned and qualified to perform.
  • Assess, review, and develop nursing plans to ensure maximum patient outcomes.
  • Provide counsel, support, advice, and support to patients and their families.
  • Complete all patient charting and ensure all patient records are current and complete.
  • Participate in PCMH care team meetings to develop patient care plans and determine education and resource needs of patients.
  • Provide patient and/or family education regarding medications, self-management, interventions, goals, and other topics as determined by care team.
  • Attend meetings, patient conferences, planning sessions, related to quality assurance, patient care, and other related topics within the clinic.
  • Attend seminars and maintain all licensure requirements for continuing education and best practices.
  • Participate in quality strategies to evaluate compliance with standards and to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Current, relevant state licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

 

Experience

  • Demonstrated success in providing clinical care and nursing support within an organization of comparable pace and complexity.
  • Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient/customer situations.
  • Significant knowledge of medical practices and procedures within a primary care environment.
  • Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient services and the proper knowledge and use of medical devices and equipment.
  • Demonstrated success and familiarity with tools, technology, and systems typical found within most progressive health care environments (i.e. personal computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing, patient records systems, EMR systems, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Patient Centered Medical Home model’s purpose and goals.
  • Acknowledge patients’ rights by maintaining HIPAA guidelines at all times.
  • Familiarity with the Patient Centered Medical Home model and the implementation of PCMH in ambulatory care.
